Nursery Art - Etsy Review

Our gender neutral nursery turned out to be very vanilla and chocolate. Apparently it's hard to find reasonably priced baby bedding that's gender neutral and not tan or brown. So the whole room turned out to be brown and cream (with tan carpeting), based on the bedding we bought:
(purchased from BRU)

I loved the little bird - ask my family - I have a thing for birds! Overall, the room has come a long way since we moved in, and I am happy with it, but it definitely needed some flair. While looking around Etsy a few months ago, I pinned these adorable Counting Cards:

from seller Children Inspire Design. I thought they were cute, and neutral, and added some color without being very bright. Once I decided to pull the trigger, they were no longer available, but I sent a quick message and found out they would be back the next day. So I ordered them, they came in less than a week and sat in the envelope for weeks. I wanted them to look a little more formal then just hung on the wire as shown, so I made a trip to Ikea for some frames, and that's where the trouble started. The cards are 5x7, so I got 10 of Ikea's Virserum Frame in white, with a mat opening of 4 3/4" by 6 3/4". Unfortunately, because the outside border of the cards is so narrow, you lost most of it when putting it behind the mat:

And I wanted as much color as possible. I went to my local Michael's to look for mat's with bigger openings, but this must be a standard size - I had no luck. I considered just mounting it on a piece of scrapbook paper in the frame without the mat, but I was afraid that would look too busy:

So I did what we always so in this house - rig it up. I decided to (for now) just tape the card on top of the mat.

Not perfect, but it will do for now. Perhaps when I am home taking care of the baby I will paint the mats a pale shade of blue, pink, or something else. For now I just wanted to get them on the wall. That in itself was a challenge. We made a grid using the laser level and a tape (by we I mean Joe) and started nailing and hanging:

And then straightening out the best we could:

Overall, Rebecca was great to work with, I just wish the cards would have fit into the frames I bought a little better. I am happy with how it turned out in the end though.

More nursery pics to come once I get some more flair on the walls. Stay tuned!
